Abstract : Mango is an important fruit crop throughout the hilly regions, forests and plains of Orissa, India. Most of the mango plantations are very old and due to bad maintenance and neglect, mango production from these orchards is far below the average all India yield. One of the important constrains in mango production is the regular epidemic damage of Amrasca splendens. Although there is no accurate account of yield loss due to insect attack, an average loss of 30-50% has been reported which in severe cases may reach 90-100% in certain years. In Orissa, even though the cicadellid problem is very serious, no attempt has yet been made to investigate the bionomics of this pest earlier. During March/April 1980, the biology of this pest was studied in Bhubaneswar, Orissa, India, and the results are presented.
