Physiological and bio-chemical changes in the leaf tissues from quiescent to fruiting stages of mango.

Abstract : Leaves (4th or 5th of fully grown terminal shoots) sampled at the quiescent, bud-burst, flowering and fruiting stages, were analysed for auxin (IAA), gibberellins (GA), cytokinins (kinetin), protein, starch, ascorbic acid, RNA and DNA. Three cultivars (Neelum, Mulgoa and Peter) were studied, but mean concentration values only are reported. IAA and GA contents (µg/g) of leaves were higher at the quiescent and flowering stages than at bud-burst and fruiting, while the kinetin level decreased from the quiescent stage through bud-burst and flowering to fruiting. Starch, ascorbic acid, RNA and DNA contents were higher, and protein content was lower at flowering than at the quiescent and fruiting stages.
