Abstract : Post-bloom vegetative flush (PBVF) on young (6-year-old) Alphonso mangoes on Surungudi rootstocks caused heavy flower and fruit drop and premature senescence of entire panicles. About 8% of pea-sized fruits survived to maturity on shoots without PBVF, but on shoots with PBVF all fruits were lost before they reached marble size. Rubbing off vegetative sprouts as they appeared on shoots with PBVF caused an increase in the number of fruits retained to approximately 90% of that on shoots without PBVF.
