Abstract : Six Langra mango trees of equal age and similar size were selected, 3 of which were in the 'on' year and 3 in the 'off' year, and 2 limbs (2-4 inches in diameter) were chosen from each tree for experimental treatment. The treatments consisted of an untreated control, and various combinations of GA (50 p.p.m.) applied in mid-June, urea (10?000 p.p.m.) applied in mid-June, and Ethrel [ethephon] (200 p.p.m.) applied during Nov.-Dec. GA applied alone or with urea produced a vegetative flush leading to increased shoot length, leaf number and leaf area in both 'on'- and 'off'-year shoots. When GA and urea were combined with Ethrel, there was increased flowering in 'off'-year shoots, but decreased flowering in 'on'-year shoots. Ethrel applied alone had a similar but lesser effect than when applied with GA and urea. It is concluded that combined treatment with GA, urea and Ethrel can be used to overcome the alternate bearing habit of mango.
