Abstract : Lepidosaphes laterochitinosa was intercepted twice in Florida in 1987 on ornamental plants of the genus Aglaonema imported from the Philippines. The diaspidid is not otherwise known in Florida, so steps were taken to prevent its establishment. Notes are given on its morphology (with characters distinguishing it from another member of the genus), distribution (in Taiwan, the Philippines, Micronesia and south-east Asia, and in glasshouses in England), survey and detection, and alternative food plants, which include areca, citrus, coconut palm, mango, cassava and various ornamental plants.
