Identity and economic importance of fruit flies attacking mango in Puerto Rico: a two-year survey.

Abstract : The results are reported of a survey carried out in Puerto Rico in 1986-87 on the tephritids attacking mangoes. All of the 5000 or so larvae collected from mature-green and ripe fruits all were identified as Anastrepha obliqua. This result confirmed previous findings by local entomologists. Most of the larvae (66.5%) were recovered from local varieties whose infestation levels were 1560 larvae/1000 fruits. Commercially important varieties had a much lower average infestation rate (27 larvae/1000 fruits).
