Effects of antibiotics on growth, sporulation, spore germination and germtube elongation of Alternaria tenuis Nees and Pestalotia mangiferae P. Henn.

Abstract : In vitro effects were determined of 4 concn (0.005, 0.01, 0.05 and 0.1%) of 5 antibiotics (aureofungin, agrimycin, griseofulvin, mycostatin and streptocycline) on A. tenuis [A. alternata] and P. [Pestalotiopsis] mangiferae from mango leaves. Inhibitory effects were noted for all antibiotics; they were greatest for aureofungin and least for streptocycline. The 2 highest concn of griseofulvin caused bead-like swellings on germtubes.
