Abstract : The incidence of panicle malformation in the cv. Taimour was investigated during the 1985 and 1986 seasons in relation to regulation of naturally occurring cytokinin-like substances. The effects of the extract from normal and malformed panicles on the mitotic activity and chromosomal behaviour in root tip cells of onion were investigated. The content and the biological activity index of the cytokinin-like substances were higher in extracts from malformed compared with normal panicles. Conversely, the content and activity index of cytokinins from stem and leaf extracts were generally lower in malformed than in normal panicles.
