Effect of various concentrations of auxins and their time of application on fruit retention in mango (Mangifera indica L.) cv. Chausa.

Abstract : When auxins were applied at flower bud differentiation stage, the highest increase in fruit retention over the control (360-400%) in 2 years was recorded with 50 p.p.m. NAA, followed by 100 p.p.m. 4-CPA (230%), 100 p.p.m. IPA (indolylpropionic acid) (200-230%) and 50 p.p.m. 2-CPPA [cloprop] (130-200%). Application of auxins at panicle emergence stage resulted in the highest increment in fruit retention (160-207%) being obtained with 100 p.p.m. IPA followed by 50 p.p.m. NAA (125-177%), 200 p.p.m. 2-CPPA (130%) and 50 p.p.m. 4-CPA (62.5-100%). Data are also tabulated on the effect of auxins applied at the mustard and pre-mature stages of fruit development. Generally NAA was the most effective auxin tried.
