Mango malformation in relation to shoot excision.

Abstract : Observations were made on trees from which cuttings (scion sticks) were taken for grafting during Aug. and Sep. The cut shoots were tagged and examined in Feb. Sixty-six percent of these shoots gave malformed panicles which arose from axillary buds, and wherever malformed panicles emerged, they were more numerous than the healthy panicles (4.4 per shoot compared with 2.1). The findings are discussed in relation to ethylene and malformin production caused by wounding the plant.
