Effect of interplanting fruit crops on mango.

Abstract : Trees of the mango cv. Dashehari were planted at 10×10 m in 1979. In 1980 the plots were (1) interplanted with mango cultivars Dashehari and Mallika, (2) interplanted with the guava cultivars Allahabad Safeda and Lucknow-49, and (3) interplanted with low-chilling peach cultivars Flordasun and Shan-e-Punjab. Dashehari in monoculture was the control. The studies indicated that it may be possible to undertake high density planting of mango, as in (1), in view of the stable performance of the main crop, and its good growth and higher revenue in the initial years. The other systems, however, did not appear to be feasible on account of unfavourable effects on the yield of the main crop.
