Anthocyanin development in mango fruit in response to a preharvest antitranspirant spray.

Abstract : In trials with Irwin, Keitt and Lippens mango cvs, Vapor Gard (poly-1-p-menthen-8-9 diyl) at 5 or 6% was applied 1-3 weeks before commercial harvest. With Irwin and Keitt the pre-harvest red colour development was markedly enhanced both in terms of intensity and the area coloured. With Lippens, however, whose colour is primarily yellow when ripe, red colour development was only slightly affected. Post-harvest red or yellow colour development, chlorophyll loss, respiration and ethylene production of fruits of all cvs held at 21 deg C were not affected.
