Abstract : In the laboratory, Amritodus atkinsoni adults showed 90% mortality within 12 h of being caged with inflorescences of resistant Bangalora and Baneshan but only 30% mortality with those of susceptible Padiri and Neelum, even after 24 h. Adults produced more honeydew secretions on highly susceptible varieties than on resistant and moderately resistant varieties. Resistant Bangalora, Baneshan and Chinnarasam had the least deposits of honey dew. The inflorescence rachis of susceptible varieties was more tender than that of resistant varieties and more easily penetrated by the female hopper during oviposition.ADDITIONAL ABSTRACT:In laboratory studies in India, the mortality of adults of Amritodus atkinsoni was 90% when kept on the resistant mango varieties Bangalora and Baneshan for 12 h but only 40% for those kept on the susceptible varieties Padiri and Neelum for 24 h. Adults produced more honeydew on the susceptible Padiri, Neelum, Peter, Sindhura and Mulgoa than on the resistant varieties. The inflorescence rachides of the susceptible varieties were found to be more suitable for penetration by ovipositing females than those of resistant varieties.
