Abstract : Two field tests were carried out on mango in 1980-81 in Gujarat, India, to compare the residual effect of several pyrethroid and other insecticides against Amritodus atkinsoni (Leth.). The 1st spray treatment was applied after flowering (3rd week of February), and further applications were made only if the hopper population subsequently equalled or exceeded an arbitrary threshold level of 5 nymphs/inflorescence. Only 1 treatment was necessary with the pyrethroid sprays (0.015% permethrin, 0.015% fenvalerate, 0.009% cypermethrin or 0.015% cyfluthrin (Baythroid)) or 0.15% carbaryl, but 2 were required with 0.075% phosalone or 0.075% endosulfan, 2-3 with 0.03% monocrotophos and 3 with 0.075% phenthoate, 0.05% vamidothion, 0.04% chlorpyrifos or 0.05% quinalphos.
