Abstract : In connection with the use of insecticides against Amritodus spp. and Sternochetus mangiferae (F.) in Tamil Nadu, India, on mango fruits that had been treated with 0.06% dimethoate, 0.05% demeton-S-methyl (Metasystox) and 0.05% fenthion using a high-volume sprayer were tested for chemical residues. The initial deposits (in p.p.m.) and (in brackets) half-lives (in days) were 1.24 (2.6), 1.18 (3.0) and 0.99 (3.1) for the 3 compounds, respectively. Safe waiting periods of 3, 3 and 5 days, respectively, are suggested for unripe fruit. When the fruits were kept for ripening, the residues fell below the recommended tolerance limits for other fruits.
