Abstract : Composts were prepared out of water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes), paddy straw or mango leaves, with or without basic slag. The composts were prepared either in sunlight or in the dark. Compost prepared in sunlight from water hyacinth + basic slag had the highest N content, and resulted in the highest plant yields (up to 612 g/pot, with 1 seedling/pot) and highest fruit protein, P, K and vitamins A, B and C contents.
