Abstract : Importance in human nutrition, uses and other aspects of well and lesser known species are reviewed; relatively little research on improving these fruits has been conducted in the tropics. Research on banana, citrus and mango is described, and pineapple, avocado, guava, pawpaw, Annona species, passion fruits, durian (Durio zibethinus), mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana) and rambutan (Nephelium lappaceum) are dealt with.
