Persistence of carbaryl on mango fruit.

Abstract : A study was carried out in Madhya Pradesh, India, in 1976-77 to determine the waiting period for safe consumption of mango after treatment with carbaryl, which has been recommended for the control of several pests of the crop, including Cicadellidae and Eriophyidae. The initial deposit after treatment with a wettable powder, low-volume or suspension formulation of the compound at 0.2, 0.16 and 0.1%, respectively, was well below the tolerance limit of 10 p.p.m. established by WHO and FAO. In all cases, washing the fruits with water significantly reduced the residues. All the treatments were therefore considered safe and a waiting period unnecessary.
