Abstract : Zeatin, zeatin riboside, N6-( DELTA 2-isopentenyl)adenine riboside and an unidentified compound which appeared to be a cytokinin glucoside were isolated from extracts of immature mango (cv. Irwin) seeds. Cytokinin concentration in the panicle and pulp of mangoes was highest 5 to 10 days after full bloom (AFB) and decreased rapidly thereafter. Cytokinin concentration in seeds increased until 28 days AFB. The quantity of cytokinins in pulp/fruit increased from 10 days AFB and was highest 50 days AFB. The amount of cytokinins/seed increased from 10 days AFB, reaching a peak 40 days AFB. Spraying BA (1.5X103 mu M) on panicles at anthesis followed by GA (7.2X102 mu M) + NAAM (3.1X101 mu M) application at the young fruit stage significantly reduced fruit drop.
