First report of Micrococcus luteus causing leafspot on Mangifera indica in Rajkot, India.

Abstract : A black leafspot disease of unknown aetiology causes considerable leaf fall, reduces fruit set, and ultimately leads to fruit loss in mango (Mangifera indica) production regions in India. Leaves with black leafspot symptoms were collected in August 2013 from near Rajkot City, Gujarat, India. Leafspots were dark brown at the periphery, black in the centre, and irregular in size and shape. Based on morphological characteristics, sequencing of 16S rDNA and pathogenicity test, the causal agent was identified as Micrococcus luteus. This is thought to be the first report of Micrococcus luteus SUBG006 causing leafspot on Mangifera indica in Rajkot, Gujarat, India.
