Effect of presowing treatments on germination, growth and vigor of polyembryonic mango seedlings.

Abstract : The polyembryonic mango stones which are soaked in GA3 200 ppm recorded the maximum rate of germination (0.022), plant height (21.6 cm), number of leaves (10.5), leaf area (255.4 cm2), vigor index-I (1716.8 cm) and vigor index-II (786.8 g) compared to other treatments and least was in control. Whereas GA3 100 ppm and KNO3 1% recorded the maximum germination per cent (77.3%) and stem girth (0.61 cm) respectively. Among the varieties Bappakkai recorded the early germination (13.0 days), plant height (23.2 cm), stem girth (0.59 cm), leaf area (255.9 cm2) and vigor index-II (806.4 g), while other parameters like germination per cent (87.5%), rate of germination (0.022) and vigor index-I (1889.9 cm) was maximum in variety Muvandan and minimum was observed in variety Vellaikolumban. There were no significant differences among the interactions of different treatments.
