Impact of pre-harvest spraying of fungicides on postharvest development of anthracnose and quality of mango fruits.

Abstract : Investigation was carried out for two years to know the effect of fungicides on postharvest losses in mango var. Alphonso. The investigation consisted of pre-harvest spray of different chemicals to control anthracnose caused by Colletotrichum gloeosporioides during mango seasons of 2011 and 2012. The pre-harvest spraying of Mancozeb+Carbendazin @ 0.2%+Magnesium Sulfate @ 0.1% had significantly reduced the spoilage incidence with minimum percentage disease index (PDI) of 3.66 and 3.33 for two consecutive years. This treatment gave maximum scores for organoleptic tests conducted. The stored fruits showed minimum acidity percentage of 0.21 and 0.31, maximum sugar content of 14.49 and 14.63% at the end of storage period. Another treatment, spraying of Thiophanate Methyl @ 0.2% resulted in better firmness of mango fruits with values of 4.13 and 4.30 kg/cm2, minimum physiological loss of weight at 10.46 and 10.13 and a maximum shelf life of 17 days.
