Influence of reproductive development on longevity of de-bladed petioles of mango (Mangifera indica L.).

Abstract : This paper presents the results of studies conducted examine how far the longevity of the de-bladed petioles in the shoot explants of mango is controlled with growth of inflorescences and fruits. Identical studies were also conducted to determine retention hours of de-bladed petioles in the shoots, apical buds of which remained dormant without protruding any inflorescence or leafy growth. The treatments comprised those that consisted of one dormant bud at the apex, instead of panicle or leafy-shoot (T1) and those which produced one panicle apically on a shoot (T2). Observations consisted of determining hours required for abscission of the de-bladed petioles which was tested at 10-12 h interval, following a conventional method. Results showed that the decrease in retention hours of the de-bladed petioles differed according to stages of reproductive development.
