Effect of water regulation in bearing period for yield and quality in mango cv. Amrapali.

Abstract : An experiment was conducted from 2009-11 to study the effects of water regulation along with organic mulching on yield and quality parameters in mango cv. Amrapali at Horticultural Research Station, Mohanpur, BCKV, West Bengal. Eight treatments were imposed. Over the three years, yield and quality parameters were found to be significant among the treatments. Its application along with organic mulching significantly increased the yield and quality parameters over the control. Among the treatments, the best treatment was (T4) irrigation at 10 days interval with 30 l of water in the bearing period supplemented with organic mulching recorded the maximum number of fruits/tree (504.86) and yield (136.77 kg/tree) as compared to control (264.20 fruits/tree and 56.51 kg/tree), respectively. Quality parameters also recorded maximum in T4 and lowest in control. However, highest acidity in fruit and better storage self-life were observed in non-irrigated fruit tree as compared to irrigated fruit tree.
