Biodiversity of coccinellid predators in different crop ecosystems of Odisha.

Abstract : A survey was conducted during January 2010-December 2010 for studying the biodiversity of coccinellid predators in different crop ecosystems. Cheilomenes sexmaculata (Fabricius) was the most abundant species in all crops, followed closely by Coccinella transversalis Fabricius and Micraspis discolor (Fabricius). Other ladybirds like Coccinella septempunctata Linnaeus, Micraspis vincta (Gorham), Brumoides suturalis (Fabricius), Scymnus coccivora Ayyar, Pharoscymnus horni (Weise), Harmonia octomaculata (Fabricius) Chilocorus nigrita (Fabricius), and Illeis cincta (Fabricius) were also recorded. Micraspis univittata (Hope), Propylea dissecta (Mulsant) and some unidentified species were also noticed in less number as compared to other species in different crop ecosystems like rice, maize, groundnut, gmgelly, cowpea, greengram, crucifers, brinjal, okra, sugarcane and fruit crops like citrus, mango, ber, guava and moringa.
