Abstract : In the Plant Pathology section (246-253, 5 tab.) details are given of the incidence of Phytophthora palmivora foot rot of black pepper. In both in vitro and in vivo trials Dowco M 4408 showed promise against the pathogen. In field trials the best control of black berry (Cephaleuros virescens, Colletotrichum piperis and C. capsici) of black pepper was given by Bavistin [carbendazim], Benlate [benomyl], Derosal [carbendazim] and Difolatan [captafol]. Stem blight (Phomopsis vexans) of eggplant was reduced to 32.73% by benomyl (0.05% a.i.). In trials with 4 fungicides for the control of Cercospora capsici on Capsicum, the best yields were obtained with thiram and Trimanzone. Black pod of cacao (P. palmivora) was observed for the 1st time in Sarawak, causing c. 40% infection in 6 plantations. Other new disease records included Puccinia oahuensis on Digitaria decumbens, Gonatobotryum apiculatum on mango, Pestalotiopsis psidii on guava, Pseudocercospora psophocarpi on Psophocarpus tetragonolobus and Dichotomophthoropsis nymphaerum on rice.
