Abstract : The morphological and biochemical characteristics of 15 isolates of this pathogen from cultivated and native mango fruits and leaves were determined. Only 1 was motile and only 4 produced soluble brown pigments. The bacterium did not release temperate phages spontaneously but virulent phages were obtained from infected leaf tissues. These were resistant to chloroform, produced circular, entire, clear plaques and infected the mango pathogen but not any other bacteria. Streptomycin, Dikar [mancozeb + dinocap], Dithane M-22 [maneb] and hinodan were inhibitory to growth in vitro.
