Abstract : Pleurotus sajor-caju was cultivated on a series of substrate formulations incorporating waste mango tree branches instead of sawdust. All formulations supported strong hyphal growth rates, leading to complete substrate colonization within 9-12 days, and fruit body formation. Biological efficiency values were lower for formulations containing 76% and 66% mango residues, and higher for formulations containing 56%, 46% and 36% mango residues, compared with controls containing 56% sawdust and no mango material. The highest conversion rate (93.5%) was recorded with the formula consisting of 56% mango residues, 20% cottonseed hulls, 20% wheat bran, 3% lime and 1% gypsum.
