Effect of different planting systems cum high density on growth, yield and quality of mango (Mangifera indica L.) cv Amrapali.

Abstract : The experimental results showed that the vegetative growth parameters viz. plant and canopy height, circumference of root stock and scion, number of primary, secondary and tertiary and volume were non-significant but plant spread (N-S) and (E-W) was significant. The yield parameters viz. number of fruit per penical pea and marble size, number of fruit per plot, yield per plot and hectare and average weight of fruit indicated that the influence of various treatments were found to be significant but number of fruit and yield per plant both were non-significant. Physical and chemical properties of fruits were found non-significant in all the observations. The results showed that square system gave the maximum number of primary, secondary and tertiary branches, circumference of rootstock and scion, spread (E-W) and (N-S) and volume (m3) whereas, the double hedge row system gave maximum plant height. Date start of flowering, full bloom and fruit setting was earliest paired planting system and late in cluster system and double hedge row system. Maximum yield per plants was found in square system and paired system, respectively. The average weight per fruit was maximum in square system and minimum in double hedge row system. The physical properties of the fruits were not much affected by the planting systems. Percentage of stone was observed maximum in single hedge row system and minimum in double hedge row system. The chemical qualities of the fruits were not affected by the planting systems. TSS had positive association with the total sugar.
