Abstract : The incidence of gummosis and sudden decline disease of mango plants was monitored in selected six upazilas namely Bholahat, Nachole, Gomostapur, Shibganj and Sadar under Chapai Nawabganj district and Bagha upazila under Rajshahi district of Bangladesh during 2008 to 2010. It was observed that the disease becoming a serious threat to the mango production. The highest incidence (2.88%) was recorded in Shibganj while the lowest (1.38%) was recorded in both Bholahat and Bagha upazila in 2008-2009. Similar result was obtained in 2009-2010 season. In case of varietal reaction, the incidence varied from 0 to 2.92% and 0% to 3.31% in 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 respectively. The variety Fazli was highly susceptible to the disease with the highest incidence (2.92%) followed by Guti while the lowest incidence (0.24%) was recorded in BARI Mango-3 in 2008-2009. Similar trend was noted in 2009-2010 season. The fungus Lasiodiplodia theobromae (Pat.) Griff. and Maubl. was isolated from the infected plant. Pathogenicity test was carried out on three year old mango plants at the Laboratory of Regional Horticulture Research Station, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institution, Chapai Nawabganj. The association of the pathogen with the disease was confirmed by pathogenicity test.
