A process for the treatment of plant matter, the process comprising steps of subjecting plant matter to heating in an oxygen deficient atmosphere at a temperature of heating of 150?C to 280?C for three to twelve hours, partially to decompose said matter and to drive-off volatiles contained with said matter and condensing said volatiles to yield a liquid product.
